Greater Houston Psychiatric Associates offers a Physician Directed Intensive Outpatient Program (PD-IOP) at three locations. The PD-IOP is designed for patients with significant stress, anxiety, or depression whose needs cannot be met by traditional outpatient psychotherapy and medication management. It is not intended for patients who require inpatient hospital treatment.
Patients participate in psychotherapy groups three hours each weekday. Individual and family psychotherapy sessions are also included in the comprehensive program, as is ongoing psychiatric assessment and medication management by the supervising psychiatrist.
The duration of treatment is determined by individual need and progress toward established goals based on symptoms and functioning.
Groups are led by experienced licensed therapists and focus on overall wellness. Patients are actively involved in developing specific treatment goals and monitoring progress toward them. Family members are encouraged to participate in each patient’s experience through family therapy sessions. The PD-IOP is directed by a board-certified psychiatrist who coordinates the patient’s overall care and provides medical treatment and patient education.
Intake assessments can be promptly performed and patients appropriate for the program may promptly begin treatment. The program is covered by most major insurance plans.
